Woody, Judy and myself start the day a little extra early than the rest of the team as Woody needed to pick up his bike from Howard Beach.
Douglas, our driver, picked us up at 6.45am and off we went. We were up right next to La Guardia Airport and had to make our way down to Howard Beach by JFK Airport going through the Boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, the traffic at this point was building but had already reached peak Auckland by the time we hit the road but it wasn't too bad.
As we were a little early for the shop to open, we were meeting him at 8.00am, Douglas took us on a little tour of Howard Beach: there are two sides to this area, the old and new.
The old....
This house boat is for sale; any takers?
Though the houses above had their own jetty.
The new...
Woody picked up his bike without issue and then followed us over to Staten Island where I needed to pick up my bike and meet the rest of the team. A big thank you to Douglas for getting us around.
We finally got on the road at around 10.30am to wind ourselves through the Staten Island/New Jersey/New York traffic to head north to Boston; a great job achieved by Chris and Jo even though some drivers made their mission to try and take them out: first stop a gas station: second stop was two hours down the road where we had a drink and eat break.
The road we were on was very very good; lined with trees: very very pleasant to ride. Every 1/2 hour or so there would be a gas station and either a Dunkin Donuts or Subways shop; this was mirrored on the other side of the road; great idea.
Boston was very interesting getting into. We had to navigate through a rather large and long tunnel system to get to our hotel: the day was hot and it didn't help that the bikes heated up resulting in a rather uncomfortable time. Harley Davidson motorcycles are not made for this and certainly gave us a good workout with all the stopping and starting but like all ends to a working day a nice shower and a cold beer was waiting patiently 😁😁.
See you tomorrow! We are going Boston exploring and saying hello to Norm!
What model HD you have?
