First stop of the day was the Harley Davidson factory in York, Pennsylvania where Jo had jacked up a factory tour for us, unfortunately the assembly line was closed due to a model change and other changes because this factory was now building all models for the American market; all other final assembly factories in America have been closed down: the electric HD will also be built here. What we did get to see was very good and worth the effort; we also managed to buy some stuff that cannot be got anywhere else which was good. We couldn't take photos inside the factory so none to show here sorry.
Once the tour was done and purchases made it was off to Bird in Hand for a bite to eat and a drink at a lovely bakery. It would be fair to say they weren't expecting such a large number at one time! After Bird in Hand it was off to Intercourse; you read right, Intercourse. Who in their right mind would name their town Intercourse especially when it used to be called Crossed Keys; which is better?
This was Amish and Mennonite country so seeing the horse and buggies going up and down the road was normal for locals but not us, it was a novelty. Judy worked out how to tell the difference: the Amish ladies wore bonnets in the shape of hearts at the back and their carriages are black and grey where the others rode in total black buggies and wore a scarf I think. Sometimes this is shot to pieces as I saw a couple of Amish driving cars.
From Intercourse it was straight into Philadelphia meeting up with heavy traffic which made it tough going.
New Jersey
Once settled into our rooms showered and freshened up it was off for a walk along Penn's Landing Historic Walk and watch the ships come by; the one below doesn't look like it but it was darn close to the landing.
USS New Jersey - Retired battle ship
WW1 Cruiser Olympia
Sub Becuna
There was a lot of people out celebrating and the United States Army Field Band was playing in the Great Plaza and this was followed by a rather large spectacular fireworks display which we were able to see from our restaurant; very enjoyable it was.
Ben Franklin Bridge
From dinner it was back to the hotel and bed; boy were we tired!
Tomorrow the ride ends and another adventure begins.
