Portsmouth to Natural Bridge

We woke and looked out the room window, as we do every morning, to check on the weather and found it to be foggy! Foggy, this is the first time we have struck fog but it was already warm.

We left the hotel at 8.00am to take some photos of the mural and then head over the bridge into Kentucky to follow the Ohio River down to Huntington then onto Charleston before following the Kanawha River down to Gauley Bridge; we went past the Kanawha and Cathedral Falls and ended up  at the longest steel span bridge in the Western Hemisphere (924 mts) and the third highest in the United States (it is as tall as two Statues of Liberty standing on top of each other on top of the Washington Monument), the New River Gorge Bridge: this bridge has reduced a drive of 45 minutes down to one minute.

From here it was to a harley shop before shooting the gap for Natural Bridge our stop for the night. Natural Bridge got its name from a natural arch in the Natural Bridge State Park. This ride was a fast one as a thunder storm was brewing and it looked mean; we made it dry.

We needed to to unpack and change quickly as Jo had arranged a visit to see the Arch and a replica Indian settlement. It was still very warm and the thunder storm was still hanging about  but the walk down to and the viewing of the Arch and the replica village was well worth it.

Our hotel.

After a quick shower and a drink it was dinner, best of the trip so far, then to bed for an early night. Late start tomorrow as we don't have very far to go at all.
